Driving marketing in the boardroom

What do boards of directors discuss at their meetings today? Finance, governance and control issues or marketing strategies to drive the business? Do brand equity, corporate reputation and sustainability become part of the boardroom discourse? Shouldn’t boards focus on such vital strategic marketing aspects? Do our boards look at marketing as a promotional function that can be handled down the line? How does one get more discussion on marketing on the boardroom agenda?

Professionally qualified marketers today are seeking their due place in the C-Suites and boards. It’s time for professional Marketers to take wheel at the helm of companies and their seat on boards, but have they equipped themselves as well-rounded generalists to command respect within the boardroom?

These twin focuses, relevant to company directors as well as marketers, will be reasoned at a power evening titled ‘Driving Marketing in the Boardroom’ organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) in partnership with The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Sri Lanka Region. The event will take place on Wednesday 15 May at the Oak Room Cinnamon Grand, Colombo from 5p.m. onwards.

Unilever Chairman and Former CIM Sri Lanka President, Amal Cabraal, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission Commissioner, former Aviva Insurance CEO and former SLIM President Deepal Sooriyarachchi, Bates Strategic Alliance Chairman and CEO, former SLIM President and 4As, former CIM Sri Lanka Chair Chartered Marketer Task Force Nimal Gunewardena, and Aitken Spence Director and CIM Sri Lanka President Dr. Rohan Fernando will share their thoughts and views. Overseas Realty Ceylon PLC CEO and SLID Vice President Pravir Samarasinghe, will moderate the panel discussion.
