The Export Development Board (EDB) has tied up with Rainbow Pages to launch an eDirectory and a web directory of exporters.
The EDB is a prestigious government institution that does yeoman service to promote Sri Lankan exports overseas. Until recently, the Exporters Directory was only available in traditional book / CD format.
The EDB in collaboration with Rainbow Pages - the only directory information provider backed by Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) - the flagship telecommunication provider to the nation have created a breakthrough by taking steps to produce a state-of-the-art electronic directory of exporters and web directory of exporters to suit the modern digital era of today.
The Export Community in Sri Lanka will be delighted to hear the steps taken by Janaka Ratnayakae Chairman and Chief Executive of Sri Lanka Export Development Board to introduce e-directory and web directory of exporters - a timely need. Ratnayake said that the production of these latest technological services to disseminate exporter’s information is in keeping with the policy of the government to make Sri Lanka the hub of Asian business. It also lends support to the five year strategic plan of the EDB to achieve country’s export value to US$ 15 billion by 2015.
The e-directory and web directory of exporters come with the latest IT innovations and convenient features like easy to flip glossy pages, adjustable font size and high definition colour. Furthermore the official Rainbow Pages web portal has e-Directory and web directory of exporters included therein www.srilankaexporters.lk and www.rainbowpages.lk/export. This provides access to exporters in Sri Lanka with a special web link that helps liaising via e-mail to obtain further information.
The release of the e-Directory of exporters CD which also includes the National SLT directory is a valuable asset. Thus, any person can have access to All Island Residential Directory Information including details on exporters through this CD. Also the e- Directory of exporters is of small file size and can be freely downloaded from the web portal and distributed or shared via e mail.
The continuously updated web directory of exporters gives a listing of all the currently registered exporters in Sri Lanka. The powerful search mechanisms contained in this directory helps to locate exporters with maximum ease. The information on exporters is subdivided into product and services; and further divided into subcategories. For example tea exporters can be found under the general category tea, or could be searched for in the category of tea packets, tea bags, green tea or wholesale tea merchants.
Due to quick updating, the latest export businesses in Sri Lanka would be listed. This e-Directory and web directory provide an opportunity for interactive e-commerce among foreign entrepreneurs looking for businesses in Sri Lanka and local businessmen looking for foreign markets.
Malraj Balapitya, the Chief Executive of the Sri Lanka Telecom Publication (Pvt) Ltd. said that the using telephone directories for searching suppliers are a general practice in all over the world. He also added that the launching of E- Directory and web directory of exporters will benefit not only to export sector, but also to entire international trade of Sri Lanka.
