HSBC Sri Lanka and Bates recognised for effectiveness of HSBC Advance campaign

HSBC Sri Lanka and its advertising agency for HSBC Advance, Bates Strategic Alliance were recognised for the success of their 2010 launch campaign for the HSBC Advance brand.

The campaign excelled at delivering outstanding results in capturing new customers and upgrading its existing customers to embrace the new banking services targeted at aspiring young professionals.

In HSBC’s regional Fame Awards, the Sri Lanka business and its Agency Bates won the Silver award for the ‘Most Significant Business Results Campaign of the Year’. This is the first time a Silver award was won by Sri Lanka in this competition that seeks to recognise those business units and their agencies that have produced the region’s most effective campaigns that combine creativity with effectiveness in delivering results. The last win was a Bronze won five years ago.



The ‘Who could you be tomorrow?’ campaign, the core of which was developed by Bates regionally, was then tailored by Bates Strategic Alliance for its Sri Lanka launch with a wide range of advertising and promotional materials to suit the Sri Lanka market. The campaign included press, magazine, radio and TV advertising, strategic indoor and outdoor advertising signage and host of collateral material and on-line communicators that constituted vital elements of the campaign’s direct marketing thrust.

Handing over the award to CEO of Bates Nimal Gunewardena, HSBC’s CEO for Sri Lanka and the Maldives Nick Nicolaou commended the Agency for the great work done which helped in the achievement of customer recruitment targets.

The Agency team was led by COO Sheron Jayasundera and Associate Creative Director Dinesh Perera together with team members Razma Dole, Riyal Riffai and Bandula Jayawickrema. The Client team headed by Head of Marketing, Group Communication and Corporate Sustainability Nilantha Bastian included Marketing Manager Personal Financial Services Tharanga Gunasekera, Thanuja Gunasekera – Senior Manager Consumer Assets and Liabilities, Shehan Patterson – Manager Card Products, Damitha Wickramatunga – Assistant Marketing Manager Emerging Mass Affluent, Manisha Liyanage and Mithila Mendis.
