JWT Colombo shortlisted for Cannes Lions Awards 2012

The VesakPandol centred on the story of ‘gender based violence’ for Care International created by JWT Colombo has been shortlisted for Cannes Lions 2012.



‘Spreading the light against women’s abuse’ is a pandol conceptualised to remind people about the Buddhist philosophy of treating all humans with equal respect. The tale was on a two-story high pandol, illuminated by 7,500 light bulbs, displayed in Colombo in celebration of the 2600th SambuddhathvaJayanthi.

Sharing her sentiment on the nomination, JWT Colombo said Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Chandini Rajaratnam, “Very happy to have made it to the shortlist. It’s in the Outdoor Category which is now an extremely creative medium all over the world. There were nearly 5,000 entries and only 10% made the shortlist.”

Cannes Lions is the world’s biggest annual awards show and festival for professionals in the creative communications industry. The VesakPandol created by JWT Colombo has been shortlisted under the category of Outdoor Lions, aimed at recognising and awarding thought provoking, traffic stopping truly creative outdoor communications.

As the most prestigious international creative communications awards, Cannes Lions attracts more than 28,000 entries from all over the world are showcased and judged at the festival. Winners receive the highly coveted Lion trophy. It is also the only truly global meeting places for advertising communications professionals. ‘Spreading the light against women’s abuse’ recently also won the prestigious Lotus Roots award at ADFEST 2012 held in Pattaya Bangkok.
