Leo Burnett Worldwide celebrated the company’s 79th anniversary on 5 August in Colombo under the global theme of ‘79 things to do before we turn 80’. As one of the world’s leading advertising networks, Leo Burnett is known for building famous brands such as Marlboro, Coca-Cola, Nintendo, Kellogg’s, Hallmark, P&G and McDonald’s amongst many other leading global brands. Today, Leo Burnett is also one of the most awarded creative communications agencies in the world. The global theme of ‘79 things to do before we turn 80’ was celebrated by 85 offices around the world and was aptly titled ‘The Leo Burnett Bucket List’. The list comprised a variety of tasks which Burnetters will have to complete before the agency celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2015. The list featured a variety of fun and engaging tasks, some of which were; ‘Spread the Leo Love’, a commitment to get involved with a charity run and ‘Yes# Day’, a whole day committed to saying yes. Burnetters were also gifted 79 coins in a bucket to represent the agency’s 79 years of continued success. This is a tradition which is practiced in every office around the world on the company’s anniversary. Commenting on Leo Burnett’s 79th anniversary, Leo Burnett Sri Lanka Managing Director Ranil de Silva stated, “Every year, every office in the Burnett network celebrates this auspicious occasion under a global theme. This year, the theme was actually a countdown to next year’s milestone of our 80th anniversary. All of us at Leo Burnett Sri Lanka are truly proud to be a part of this great advertising network which has been a pioneer in the marketing communications industry. I am happy that our small outpost in Sri Lanka has lived up to the global agency’s reputation of being a trailblazer. Every Burnetter in Sri Lanka shares the passion of the late Leo Burnett. Each and every day, we relentlessly try to be the best in the world bar none and this pursuit of success and excellence is something Leo himself believed in.” To celebrate the event locally, Leo Burnett Sri Lanka hosted an anniversary celebration which featured traditional food items, fun games and activities throughout the evening. The Leo Burnett Masterclass interns also attended the celebration and did a guest performance at the event. The interns were also involved in the collection of ideas for the global bucket list. The bucket list for the Leo Burnett office in Sri Lanka includes one minute stand-up gigs in meetings, office tombola and a thambili and achcharu day at the office. This year’s anniversary is undoubtedly another milestone for the agency as it represents 79 years of embracing new experiences and ideas inspired by HumanKind – Leo Burnett’s philosophy which is rooted in the belief that creativity has the power to change human behaviour.
