Minodh de Sylva receives ‘Excellence in Marketing & Brand Leadership’ award by CMO Asia

  Richard Pieris Companies; Head of Marketing, Minodh de Sylva was recently honoured with the prestigious award for ‘Excellence in Marketing & Brand Leadership’ by Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Asia & the Golden Globe Tigers Awards & Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at a gala presentation ceremony held at the Prince Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 25 March. The award was presented in recognition of his contributions made in the fields of strategic marketing and brand management amongst many other senior marketing professionals from Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa. Minodh was also featured as a speaker on the panel discussion ‘The new leadership paradigm for sustainability’ at this elite forum held in Malaysia, which consisted professionals from over 50 countries. The only other Sri Lankan to receive this award at the event was renowned marketing professional Ravi Jayawardena – CEO Sales and Marketing, Maliban Biscuits. Ben Foo – Marketing Director (McDonald’s Malaysia), Herry Budiazhari – Marketing Director (Unilever Malaysia), Gill Zhou – VP Marketing (IBM China), Jianina Fay Salidong – Country Marketing Head (P&G Philippines) and Mohomad Zafar – Head of Marketing (Renault Malaysia) were other notable winners representing other countries at the event. The Golden Globe Tigers Award was launched in 2013 at the World Marketing Summit – A Philip Kotler initiative for a Better World. The Golden Globe Tigers Award for Excellence in Marketing & Brand Leadership is presented to a professional for his contribution to the profession and industry in the spheres of brand development and marketing excellence. In his current role as the Head of Marketing sees him responsible for the company’s retail sector marketing, business development, e-business and customer relationship management as well as the group brand marketing and PR. As a retail marketing specialist for more than a decade, his forte lies in creating and nurturing brands that have made a significant business impact across many challenging industries spanning from FMCG, insurance, healthcare, banking, finance and the retail sector. Minodh counts over 12 years of experience of which over seven years have been at senior management in strategic brand development, strategic PR, customer service, marketing and sales management and has been involved with some of the most celebrated brands in the country namely Elephant House, Ceylinco Insurance (Life), Nations Trust Bank, The Finance Company PLC and Arpico Brand/Retail Supercenters (Richard Peiris & Co. PLC), all of which are featured in the top 50 of the 100 most valuable brands in Sri Lanka by Brand Finance PLC (UK). Minodh holds the prestige of becoming one of the youngest ‘Chartered Marketers’ in the country at the age of 26 having attained the Chartered status from CIM (UK) in 2007. He was awarded the status of ‘Practicing Marketer’ (SL) from the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing in 2013, thereby achieving the rare privilege of being awarded professional recognitions from both marketing bodies in United Kingdom (CIM) and Sri Lanka (SLIM). Previously to receiving this award he has also achieved the recognition for guiding many financial brands at the SLIM Brand Excellence awards. His proven track record has been marked by being one of the youngest members in many senior management teams and board appointed committees in marketing, integrated risk management and asset and liabilities in the financial services sector. He is also a sought after speaker and visiting lecturer in branding, marketing and credit management.
