The Mediafactory Group has taken on board two communication specialists, adding power to their team of communication heavyweights, who collectively make a solid impact in Sri Lanka’s media industry.
Ruvini Jayasinghe joins the PR arm of Mediafacory Group, Momentus PR, as its Chief Operating Officer. She counts over 25 years in international corporate communications and journalism, holding key positions like Business Editor of The Sunday Times and Manager Corporate Communications at SriLankan Airlines.
Her strength in public relations is her first-hand experience and insight into journalism, in particular the print media. She has worked as a reporter, sub editor, features editor and finally as the business editor in a cross section of the country’s national newspapers and has a Diploma in Journalism from the Thomson Foundation, UK.
Ruvini began her career in communications at the Lake House Group immediately after her BA Degree from the University of Colombo and switched to the other side of the communication divide, when she moved into advertising and client servicing. She then moved back to journalism as the Business Editor of the Sunday Times for over five years until she joined the national carrier after a brief stint at Carson Cumberbatch & Co. Ltd.
In her long years of experience working with the international media to promote the country through the national carrier, Ruvini worked with a host of top International Public Relations Agencies to place Sri Lanka on the world tourism map in spite of the long years of war in the country and its completely negative impact in the international media.
Ruvini has also served as a guest lecturer in financial reporting at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute and freelanced as a foreign correspondent for the Asian Sources Media Group in Hong Kong.
Her biggest challenge in her current position is to bring her wealth of experience in the communication industry to transform the art, science and style of public relations to a totally new dimension with captivating and compelling storytelling and credible information.
Momentus Digital Head of Planning and Strategy Earl Bumotad began his career as part of the marketing team working for Experian headquartered in Costa Mesa, California.
In 2007, he moved to Sri Lanka and joined Colombo Communications Ltd., a radio broadcast company.
His move to CCL as a content writer was pivotal to his career. In 2010, he was instrumental in helping the organisation win two of the most coveted international awards in the radio broadcast industry; the National Association for Broadcasters International Broadcasting Excellence Award (US) and the Association for International Broadcasting International Media Excellence Award for Best Marketing Strategy (UK).
Earl’s competencies in conceptualisation of online campaigns and development of content growth strategies has given him a lead in online marketing, website management, search engine optimisation and marketing, efficient web design, and knowledge of programming languages. His understanding of the overall architecture of the digital space enabled him to turn online behaviour into marketing insights.
Earl saw the value of engaging audiences online and headed the adoption of social networks into the overall marketing strategy of the brands that he was working for; these included businesses operating in different trade arenas including jewellery retail, entertainment, hotel and hospitality and personal services.
For Earl, social media is a people business and this understanding has helped corporates establish strategies to maximise the power of social media and increase the success of their online marketing efforts. He has been a firm advocate of brands “being social” rather than focusing on how to do social media and encourages businesses to listen to their customers, recognise the expectations of their customers, and engage with their online target audience at the right time, with the right message, across the right channel to the right device or touch-point.
At Momentus Digital, Earl played a key role in the team who spearheaded Mobitel’s Facebook page to the number one slot in the country from the number five position, when Momentus Digital took over their campaign.
Earl will be a panellist on the “Creative Social Networking” session at the 34th National Conference of the Chartered Accountants this Friday, 25 October.
Both Ruvini and Earl joined Mediafactory Group with the aim of taking the industry’s knowledge of PR and digital to the next level.
Their collective contribution to Mediafactory Group, known for giving the market something new, is to launch a new model and thought process on PR and digital media.
