Preliminary Certificate in Marketing inauguration held with record no. of students

SLIM Vice President Elangovan Karthik addressing the gathering The SLIM Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM) held its inauguration for the first intake this year at SLIM Business school Colombo on 23 April. A record number of students registered for the Preliminary Certificate in Marketing, the first step for Marketing studies offered by Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the national body for marketing. Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM) provides basic theoretical knowledge through classroom coaching over a period of three months with a practical assignment where students translate their classroom learning into real world practical applications. PCM offers the young in the working environment a great opportunity to understand the basics in marketing, an orientation to the practice and philosophy of marketing management and thereby confidence to pursue a career. The event was graced by newly appointed council members, SLIM Vice President Elangovan Karthik, SLIM Secretary Pradeep Edward, SLIM Senior Lecturer/Chairman Education Reforms committee G.S. Sylvester and SLIM Manager Education Gayan Maldeniya. “The numbers of students interested in marketing studies are increasing day by day and the opportunities and exposure in the career world are also enhancing equally,” said SLIM President Ruwan Liyanagamage. “We saw many students who are employed, enrolling themselves for the program. They see it as a good way to grow up their career journey in marketing,” he added. “SLIM PCM is the most recognised and sought-after preliminary certificate course for marketing in the country. SLIM PCM lays the foundation for further studies in marketing and an entry qualification to the indigenous Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. This course of study has been endorsed by top corporates in the country,” says Vice President Karthik. SLIM CEO Sanath Senanayake stated that marketing is innate within us and it’s invaluable to identify that innate talent and refine it. Being the national body for marketing, SLIM bears a responsibility to educate Sri Lankans to progress in their careers. Tharanga Dolwatta from office Network Ltd mentioned after the ceremony, “My career change into Marketing made me acquire a Marketing qualification. Therefore I selected SLIM PCM as the start of my qualification path.” Many corporates employ SLIM PCM students and recognise it when employing individuals to their sales and marketing functions. They also recognise the PCM qualification at the year-end evaluation leading to increments and promotions. Pevinda Balagama stated, “My boss recommended me this program since he was eager to see my career development, I know he knows the best for me.” Registrations are now open for the second time for this ideal qualification for all budding marketers which is a stepping stone towards a Postgraduate Diploma and thereafter an MBA.
