A record number of students have registered for the Preliminary Certificate in Marketing, the foundation courseoffered by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the national body for marketing.
“This year’s intake is the highest-ever in SLIM history,” said SLIM President Tilan Wijeyesekera.
“We saw many students who have completed the A/L examination which was held recently enthusiastically enrolling themselves for the course. They see it as a good way to start the journey in marketing management,” he added.
SLIM PCM is the most recognised and best sought-after Preliminary Certificate course for marketing in the country. SLIM Preliminary Certificate lays the foundation for further studies in marketing and an entry qualification to the indigenous Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing.
This course of study has been endorsed by top corporates in the country, said SLIM CEO Sanath Senanayake.
Many corporates employ SLIM PCM students and recognise it when employing individuals to their sales and marketing functions.
They also recognise the PCM qualification at the year-end evaluation leading to increments promotions.
Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM) provides basic theoretical knowledge through class room coaching over a period of three months with a practical assignment where students translate their classroom learning into real world practical applications.
PCM offers the young in the working environment a great opportunity to understand the basics in Marketing, an orientation to the practice and philosophy of marketing management and confidence to pursue a career. It is an ideal qualification for all budding marketers and a stepping stone towards a Postgraduate Diploma and thereafter an MBA.
Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) founded in 1970 (then called Ceylon Institute of Marketing) with the view to harness the available skills in Marketing for the growth and development of the profession, was subsequently incorporated by Act No. 41 of 1980 of the Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. SLIM is a Member of the Asia Marketing Federation (AMF) and the World Marketing Association (WMA).
