The keenly-awaited SLIM Brand Excellence Awards has attracted more than 100 applicants this year. This is the 13th successive year that Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) is organising this prestigious event. “The increased number of entries this year is a testimony to how valuable are the awards to brand custodians,” says Project Chairman Roshan Fernando. The numbers have been increasing every year and seen the highest ever this year Expressing his satisfaction at the response, he said that SLIM Brand Excellence is a strong brand in its own right due to the credibility of the judging process and the manner in which it is planned and executed. Over the years SLIM has worked hard to explore ways and means of improving the process and to make the whole exercise more meaningful and exciting. One of the key objectives of SLIM Brand Excellence is to improve the brand management process thereby help foster local brands that would be globally sought-after. The theme for this year’s SLIM Brand Excellence is ‘Are you only a contender or Are you the Champ?’ This year’s awards line -up include:
  • Product Brand of the Year
  • Service Brand of the Year
  • Innovative Brand of the Year
  • Turnaround Brand of the Year
  • Local Brand of the Year
  • Best New Entrant of the Year
  • International Brand of the Year
  • SME Brand of the Year
  • CSR Brand of the Year
  • Export Brand of the Year
  • B2b Brand of the Year
  • Recognition Award – Regional Brand Recognition Award
Both local and international brands which are currently marketed in Sri Lanka are eligible to enter. The ‘Export Brand of the Year’ is opened to Sri Lankan brands marketed internationally Among other criteria is that the brand should have been marketed in Sri Lanka for at least three years as of 31 March 2014 (Financial Year). However, if the brand has been introduced to the market only within the last two years (i.e. 2012 or 2013) it can compete in the Best New Entrant of the Year category. While the last three years performance of any brand is considered for judging, the weightage will, of course be on the performance in 2013. These conditions will not apply to the ‘Regional Brand Recognition Award’. Entries must be submitted in the form made available on the official website at www.slimBE.lk. The thrust of the awards is to measure effectiveness hence the applicants are advised to provide information on results achieved supported by independently verified research or other sources. All internal information stated in the application to express achievements should be verified by the company auditors and respective quoted research agencies on the last page of the application. . We regret that we have no option but to reject such entries without verification. Visual material such as print advertisements, TVC’s, packs, POSM, brochures and other merchandising material should not be submitted with the entry, but maybe presented by successful finalists in the stage 2 presentation. Etisalat, Singer Plus, 4Ever and Vision Care have partnered this year’s SLIM Brand Excellence as Official Telecommunication Partner, Main Sponsor, Silver Sponsor and Co-Sponsor respectively, in addition to a host of service sponsors. The grand finale of SLIM Brand Excellence 2014 is scheduled for 21 October at the BMICH which is billed to be the biggest event to date with an audience of over 900.
