SLIM commended by Asia Marketing Federation at board meeting

A high level delegation of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) represented SLIM at the recently concluded Asia Marketing Federation (AMF) Board Meeting held in Manila Philippines.                               The officials made a presentation to the AMF board on the initiatives taken by SLIM, as the national body for marketing, to popularise marketing in Sri Lanka during 2013/14. The proactive approach of the institute in maintaining international standards and spreading marketing to new parts of Sri Lanka came in for particular commendation of the AMF board. This resulted in the AMF Board appointing SLIM President Kalana Rathnayaka as the co-chair of the marketing arm, of Marketing Excellence Awards Asia, a noteworthy achievement for a Sri Lankan marketer. Apart from the SLIM President, the delegation included SLIM Vice President Ruwan Liyanagamage and SLIM Past President Rohan Somawansa, who is currently the Vice President of AMF; he drew on his vast experience in the field of Marketing in Sri Lanka to deliver an insightful speech titled ‘Implementing Global Branding Decisions into Local Context’. “The affiliation with AMF, which goes back many years now, has provided SLIM recognition on the international stage. We are delighted to have participated at the AMF Board Meeting once again and solidified this relationship which will continue to benefit marketing in Sri Lanka,” said SLIM President Kalana Rathnayaka commenting on the relationship between AMF and SLIM. SLIM CEO/Executive Director Sanath Senanayake spoke about the impression SLIM had made on the AMF board. “The AMF Board was thoroughly impressed by SLIM as the activities and events conducted by us for the marketing fraternity easily surpassed those of other member nations. We will forge ahead with the same vigour and continue to set the benchmark for national marketing bodies in Asia.” AMF is the networking body of marketing associations in Asia and was originally founded in 1991 as the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation (APMF). AMF has a critical mission as the premier regional body which is responsible for effectively promoting the interests of marketing in Asia and strengthening the Asian marketing fraternity.
