Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) felicitated its Past President Thushara Perera at a ceremony held this week, after he was recognised with a top award at the recently concluded PIMA Platinum Honours 2014.
Perera, an alumnus of Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), was recognised for his outstanding career in the corporate field, during which he served as the 33rd President of SLIM. PIMA Platinum Honours is conducted annually with the aim of rewarding PIM alumni who have set benchmarks in their respective fields while contributing towards the development of society.
A commemorative plaque was presented to Perera at the felicitation ceremony and in his speech he acknowledged the important role SLIM had played in his career progression.
“The work carried out by me as President of SLIM was the biggest consideration in my selection for the Platinum Honour and I would like to thank all who supported me during my tenure.”
SLIM President Kalana Rathnayaka in his comment congratulated Perera.
“Mr. Perera did a tremendous job of leading SLIM and we have built on his efforts in subsequent years. He elevated this institution to the next level and it is no surprise that he has been recognised with this prestigious award.”
During his tenure as President in 2011/12, Perera succeeded in expanding the reach of SLIM being the national body for marketing while introducing several new products and services. His presidency saw exceptional financial performance followed by SLIM receiving a Gold award at the prestigious National Business Excellence Awards for 2011/12.
Perera’s crowning achievement as SLIM President was when he succeeded in bringing marketing guru Prof. Philip Kotler to Sri Lanka through SLIM. It afforded Sri Lankan marketers the rare opportunity to gain valuable insights into marketing principles directly from the ‘most influential marketer of all time’.
Perera is currently the Group Director – Marketing at Derana and is one of the most qualified professionals in the media industry in Sri Lanka. He holds a Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) UK, an MBA from the Sri Jayewardenepura University (PIM) and a Certified Professional Marketer status from the Asian Marketing Federation.
Upul Adikari - VP, Elangovan Karthik – treasurer, Charitha Jayasingha – Secretary, Pradeep Edward – Asst. Secretary and Sanath Senanayake – CEO/ED were present at the felicitation ceremony held at the VIP Lounge at SLIM Home, Colombo.
