The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing recently joined hands with Y FM to promote the Preliminary Certificate in Marketing (PCM) - the most sought-after and recognised entry level qualification for marketing - to Sri Lankan youth.
PCM is one of the world’s best short courses in marketing and is an entry qualification for the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. It is the first step towards internationally recognised professional status in Marketing conferred by the prestigious Asia Marketing Federation and has been endorsed by top corporates.
SLIM President Kalana Rathnayaka spoke about the main objective of this promotion.
“We have always endeavoured to promote marketing among the youth segment because that is the future of the field. Going directly to the youth with an interactive and live promotion of this nature will certainly go a long way in increasing awareness about SLIM and marketing in general.”
This on-air promotion was carried out on the Y FM Morning Show, Y hina Y, for one month starting from January and the competition produced four winners representing all the areas in the country, namely Dilshan Maduranga Herath from Pothuhera, Dilmi Pavithra Hedara from Neluwa, Maduni Shreenika Mohondiramge from Ja-Ela and Sadeesha Umayanga Ramanayake from Malabe.
SLIM CEO/Executive Director Sanath Senanayake spoke about the institute’s collaboration with Y FM.
“SLIM partnered with Y FM for this promotion due to the immense popularity it enjoys as the original youth channel. I would like to thank Y FM for the support extended to us and make special mention of Marketing Executive Dilshan Dharmaratne and the DJs Sajith and Uma,” he said.
The target audience consists of students above 16 who wish to pursue a marketing career, junior marketers who require a basic marketing qualification, middle level marketers who need theoretical input on marketing and working adults who wish to gain knowledge in marketing but are concerned about time and travelling.
SLIM Senior Vice President Ruwan Liyanagamage spoke about the quality of SLIM education. “The educational programs offered by SLIM, which are recognised locally and internationally, are renowned for their world-class standard and high quality. The feedback received for this promotion confirms that it was successful in taking these offerings to our target audience and creating awareness and a positive perception for marketing.”
SLIM is the national body for Marketing in Sri Lanka and has been promoting marketing excellence and elevating the status of marketing since 1970. It is a member of the Federation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL).
Internationally it is affiliated with ESOMAR, the Federation of Marketing Research Industries, and is a member of the Asia Marketing Federation, which is affiliated to the World Marketing Association.
