Members of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) are now able to obtain membership in the American Marketing Association (AMA) through an exclusive MoU signed between the two organisations recently.

“We being the national body for marketing in Sri Lanka are proud to enter into an exclusive MOU with the American Marketing Association which brings an array of benefits to SLIM members. With this exclusive tie up SLIM members can obtain full membership of the AMA and gain access to a wide array of benefits and privileges. The AMA is one of the most dynamic marketing associations in the world and as most marketers would acknowledge marketing is probably run in the most sophisticated and advanced manner in the US market place, which the AMA represents,” said SLIM President Tilan Wijeyesekera.

“Our association with AMA has widened the horizons of SLIM members and Sri Lankan marketers by giving them access and exposure to the world’s most advanced and contemporary marketing techniques, and all this at a specially negotiated concessionary rate for membership.”

“The American Marketing Association (AMA) is committed to extending its brand and offerings globally and in Sri Lanka and the Memorandum of Understanding we signed with the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) is an important step toward what we believe will be a deeper and enduring relationship that will benefit both organisations and, most important, marketing professionals in Sri Lanka,” said Marisa McCarren, International Director of AMA.

AMA’s portfolio of offerings is wide and deep and we have much to offer and contribute to the global and Sri Lankan marketing communities.  But we recognise that we also can learn much from marketing professionals and relationships around the world.  Therefore, we look forward to welcoming many SLIM members and their contributions to our organisation she added.

Elaborating on the benefits, SLIM CEO/ED, Sanath Senanayake said that SLIM members obtaining membership of AMA will have access to the AMA Marketer’s Toolkit, AMA Website, AMA publications, AMA Connect and many other opportunities to expand their knowledge and build their marketing skills.

“They will find a platform for conversations with trusted peers, an exclusive source of information and resources, a network for expertise and a place to learn and stay current. In short, they will be part of the AMA online community,” he added.

The AMA was established in 1937 by visionaries in marketing and academia. Today it has grown to be one of the largest marketing associations in the world, with over 30,000 members who work, teach and study in the field of marketing across the globe.

As the leading organisation for marketers, AMA is the trusted resource for marketers and academics. They are counted on as the most credible marketing resource where the members can stay relevant with knowledge, training and tools to enhance lifelong learning and obtain valuable information and connections.

The AMA is constantly innovating and evolving, helping to shape the field as well as keep abreast of the dynamic global marketplace to help its members excel in their careers. No other organisation provides more ways for marketers and academics to connect with the people and resources they need to be successful.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing is the National Body of Marketing which has a mandate of uplifting the marketing fraternity in Sri Lanka and thereby adding value to our economy and our nation. SLIM has numerous objectives to achieve in any given year which include, improving the standard of marketing in Sri Lanka, proliferating the knowledge of marketing, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of marketers, recognising and motivating marketers being some of them.

The partnership between SLIM and the AMA would bring about a host of benefits to Sri Lankan marketers who would be able to add a tremendous amount of value to themselves by utilising the benefits on offer through this tie up.

Since 1970, SLIM has been promoting marketing excellence and elevating the status of marketing in Sri Lanka. Subsequently incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1980, SLIM is a member of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and of ESOMAR, the Federation of Marketing Research Industries. SLIM is a member of the Asia Marketing Federation, which is affiliated to the World Marketing Association.
