Top SLIM officials visit CIM UK

A high-level delegation of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), the National Body for Marketing in Sri Lanka, visited the Charted Institute of Marketing in Moor Hall in Berkshire, UK recently. The delegation, which included SLIM President Gamika De Silva and SLIM Vice President – Education Dhanesh R. Jayathilaka, discussed improvements that could be made to the CIM syllabus to better suit the Sri Lankan environment. The SLIM representatives shared their insights into the nature of the local market with CIM officials and highlighted its main differences from the UK market. The improvements necessary in the course content to practically prepare Sri Lankan marketers to meet the challenges of the corporate world were also discussed. They considered the possibilities of conducting special sessions for marketers and arranging regular visits from CIM officials to Sri Lanka to develop students and add value to the marketing profession. “As the national body for marketing, we at SLIM consider it as our responsibility to elevate the quality of future Sri Lankan Marketers for the betterment of Marketing in Sri Lanka,” stated SLIM President Gamika De Silva. “The discussions we carried out will certainly enhance the focus of CIM on Sri Lanka and further improve the course content to cater to the needs of the local students,” said SLIM Vice President- Education Dhanesh R Jayathilaka. “It is important for SLIM to maintain a close relationship with CIM, which is one of our most important affiliations, as it allows us to keep CIM updated on the local marketing environment and the expectations of the students,” said SLIM CEO/Executive Director Sanath Senanayake. The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is the world’s largest and most prestigious professional body for marketing. The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region is the fastest growing CIM body in the world and serves over 3,000 studying members and 1,000 members.
