Unilever Sri Lanka bagged four awards at the recently concluded Effies 2012 for marketing effectiveness and great execution. Some of the company’s best loved brands such as Sunlight, Lifebuoy, Signal, and Fair and Lovely won these four awards, including a silver award for Signal.

Winning at the Effie Awards is a significant achievement as it is not simply about great advertising campaigns, but about the ability of a great campaign to translate into business results and growth for the brand and company. All of Unilever’s winning campaigns not only touched consumers, but also were able to achieve business results and objectives, thus strengthening the equity of the brands.

Signal won a coveted silver award for the ‘21 day Challenge’ campaign aimed at building the habit of night time brushing amongst consumers. Fair and Lovely’s bronze award came for its ‘Unbuyable Bike’ campaign, whilst Lifebuoy won for its work on the ‘Germ Fighters Force’ activation. Sunlight’s re-launch campaign ‘Magey Sunlight Aluth Wela’ also won a bronze award, signifying its status as one of the best loved brands in the nation.

Speaking on this achievement, Marketing Director – Personal Care, Ramani Samarasundera said, “At Unilever, the consumer is always at the heart of our business. The successes of our brands are directly related to how well we can speak to and engage with our consumers so that they connect with our brands. These awards are testament to the fact that we are able to speak the language of our consumers and this is an accomplishment that we are truly proud of at Unilever Sri Lanka.”

The Effie Awards were established by the American Marketing Association to reward effectiveness of advertising and publicity at both a national and regional level. The Sri Lankan Institute of Marketing (SLIM) which is the national body of marketers, have signed up with the American Marketing Association to introduce the prestigious Effies to Sri Lanka.

The Effie Awards translate into the recognition the industry pays to the momentum, dedication and creativity that great marketers have established in forming great brand communications.
