The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) has announced its latest series of public programs for December 2023.
These free and engaging events have been carefully curated to offer a range of experiences for art enthusiasts and the general public, alongside the museum’s latest exhibition titled ‘88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’.
The MMCA Sri Lanka is inviting the public to experience this new show through a Curator’s Tour with Chief Curator Sharmini Pereira on Sunday 3 December from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, or with Assistant Curator Ritchell Marcelline on 17 December from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
The public can delve in the depths of ‘88 Acres’ and gain a deeper understanding of the Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva when exploring the exhibition through the eyes of a curator. These guided tours promise to be an enlightening and enriching experience for all art and architecture enthusiasts.
A unique artist-led tour will be held on 9 December from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum premises, with Irushi Tennekoon, Sumedha Kelegama, and Sumudu Athukorala.
A specially commissioned film titled ‘Is this an architectural documentary?’ (2023) by these acclaimed artists is now on display in ‘88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’. Join this Artists’ Tour to gain insight into the exhibition from the filmmakers, and immerse in their thought-provoking narrative.
Separately the MMCA Sri Lanka will welcome the festive season on 15 December from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. as the Choir of S'Thomas' Preparatory School sings Christmas Carols, directed by the talented Harin Amirthanathan. Set against the backdrop of 88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva, the choir adds a harmonious touch to the season, creating a delightful atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
The MMCA Sri Lanka, located on the ground floor of Crescat Boulevard, Colombo 3, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except on Poya days and public holidays), and admission to both the museum and its public programs is free.
