Representatives from AMW and Yamaha Motor Japan, with participants of SLTGP 2024
Associated Motorways Ltd. (AMW) and Yamaha Motor, Japan hosted the country’s first-ever Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix 2024, on 30 November 2024. The event marked Sri Lanka’s first step in a journey towards excellence in the development of technical skills for Yamaha motorcycle and scooter technicians. The Grand Prix served as a platform for Yamaha technicians from across the country, to showcase their talents and expertise as they competed for the title of ‘Sri Lanka’s Best Yamaha Technician’.
The Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix aligns with the Yamaha World Technician Grand Prix, where technicians from around the world showcase skills as they compete for the prestigious title of ‘World’s Best Yamaha Technician’. AMW and Yamaha aim to hold the Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix once in every 2 years, in the hope of creating a pathway for a Sri Lankan presence on the global stage.
The competition assessed technicians on several key areas, including hands-on practice, which is a demonstration of technical proficiency in real-world scenarios. They also showcased their diagnostic capabilities using the Yamaha Diagnostic Tool to identify and solve electrical problems. The final area was customer relations, which showcased their professionalism and customer-centric communication which ensure satisfaction and trust.
Associated Motorways Group Managing Director Andre Bonthuys, shared his thoughts about the event stating, “The Sri Lanka Technician Grand Prix is a testament to AMW and Yamaha’s dedication to nurturing technical excellence and recognising the role that technicians play in delivering superior customer experience. It is our hope that this event becomes a platform that allows Sri Lankan talent to shine on a global stage”.
