Top professionals Hiran Mendis and Prabodha Samarasekera have been appointed to the Board of Kelani Tyres PLC as Independent Non-Executive Directors.
They will fill the vacancies created by the resignation of Kamantha Amarasekera and Saroj Jatilaka.
Hiran Mendis is a Capital Market and Financial Consultant with specialist experience in capital market development and regulation.
He is presently engaged by the Asian Development Bank as a National Green, Social and Sustainable (GSS) Finance Expert in Sri Lanka working on several GSS initiatives along with the international expert. Mendis has been consulting for the Asian Development Bank since 2016 and associated with several projects dealing with capital market development.
Mendis has the distinction of heading two stock exchanges over a period of nearly 19 years. He was the former CEO of the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) from July 2006 to December 2015 and previously was the Director General of Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) from June 1997 to June 2006.
Mendis counts over 40 years’ experience working in financial services.
He is a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK (FCMA) and holds MRA and MA (Economics) degrees from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
He is a Past President of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA) Sri Lanka Division and was a Member of Council of CIMA UK and a Board Member of CIMA Southern African Region.
Prabodha Samarasekera is a versatile leader with over 25 years of experience as a Chief Executive Officer across financial services including asset management, private equity and banking.
His track record includes leading a team as the Chief Executive Officer of NOB Wealth Management, to build Sri Lanka’s most successful private sector asset management firm with assets under management of over $ 1 billion.
A versatile individual with a multi-dimensional skill set encompasses strategy, innovation, digital, operations management, mergers and acquisitions and personnel development and is a hands-on leader with a track record of successful P&L responsibility, execution and implementation, focused on driving transformation, team building and culture change.
Samarasekera has excellent experience in working with government institutions, private sector firms and regulators.
He holds a BS in Management Information Systems and an MBA from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, USA. His 25 plus years of experience in financial services is complemented by his education and professional training in Sri Lanka, USA, Hong Kong and Singapore.
With the latest appointments the Board of Kelani Tyres PLC comprises Chairman Chanaka de Silva, Managing Director R.T. Fernando, T.B. Perera, R.P. Weerasooriya, E.T. Fernando, P. Samarasekera and B.C.H. Mendis.
