Morris Garages (MG), a strong brand with a 95-year history, has enthralled the global automotive industry during the last few years through its dynamic new range of products.
Shanghai Automotive International Corporation (SAIC) Motors, ranked 39th in the World FORTUNE 500 Companies, has not only revolutionised the MG brand name but improved its market-driven innovative capabilities as a trusted, competent carmaker in a rapidly changing automotive landscape. Today SAIC Motors is among the top 10 global car manufacturers while being the manufacturers of GM and VW as well as the owners of Rovwe, Maxsus and MG Cars internationally for well over 22 years
Since its 2018 launch in Sri Lanka, the MG ZS has dominated the SUV market and made its own mark. Today the ZS has sold over 1,900 units island-wide.
Micro Cars Ltd, the only authorised sole franchise for MG Sri Lanka, has many distinctive strengths that keep Brand MG at the very top of the local automotive industry and has driven MG to its highest potential in the Sri Lankan market within a very short period of time. It recently earned Sri Lanka the recognition of being the third-fastest growing emerging market in the world by SAIC Motors.
As a result, in March 2019, MG introduced the first fully electric SUV to Sri Lanka, the MG ZS EV. It is the first vehicle to offer eight years or 150,000 km on the Manufacturer’s Warranty for its battery pack, electric motor and Battery Management System (BMS).
The ZS EV has a practical range of over 338 kilometres on a single full charge and a test range of 415 km as well as the capacity to be DC charged up to 80% in just 30 minutes. The new EV has also grabbed the attention of most of Colombo’s elite as a second car for their daily use, mainly due to its low running and maintenance cost and array of practical standard features, which make it an ideal investment as an eco-friendly vehicle.
According to credible internal sources, over 60 units of EZS MG SUVs have been presold within just three months of its launch. The first batch of E’MGs is expected to reach their lucky owners in mid-September 2019.
Today, Micro Cars, together with SAIC Motors, has once again made history by introducing the first of its next generation vehicle line-up, the all new Mighty MG HS, a much larger SUV loaded with more of the latest features than the ZS.
The MG HS is equipped with a 1500 cc gasoline turbo charged, General Motors designed and built engine, along with GM 7 speed automatic transmission. The MG HS comes with a futuristic design and comprises technology designed under SAIC’s patented rights.
The MG HS will be available in two versions, HS LUX and HS Sports. HS LUX and Sports will carry luxury options such as a futuristic cabin with the majority of the features being touch-controlled via a 10.1’’ centre display with climate control.
The HS is designed to enable the driver to experience truly robust driving pleasure due to its steering wheel being designed to deliver easy selection of the preferred driving experience such as super sports drive to shift gears instantaneously, a sports mode when needed, a comfort mode to give you a smoother driving experience and an economic mode to give you a fuel efficient drive with just a press of a button on the steering.
Furthermore, it is equipped with other luxury features such as metal pedals, a power tailgate and a six-speaker sound system with radio, digital radio, USB, AUX, bluetooth and phone integration. The HS Sports will be equipped with sporty electric leather trimmed seats and a panoramic glass roof.
The safety of the driver and its occupants are paramount on the MG HS and it is equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX mountings for child seats, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, electronic stability control, hill start assist and active safety features for city use.
Speaking at the launch of the MG HS, Micro Cars Director Ruvindu Guneratne said: “We are humbled by the enthusiasm and confidence that Sri Lankan motorists have placed with the MG brand over the last two years. After the launch of MG with Micro, we have enabled professional after-sales service, unmatched in the industry, for MG customers with extended parties such as Carepoint and Arabian Motors to create ease and convenience for our customers in providing after-sales services. It is this response that motivated us to bring a wider array from the MG stables to our loyal customers and fan base in Sri Lanka. MG HS is just one of many revolutionary steps that will be taken in the near future by MG Lanka. The HS is a feature-packed SUV that offers great value, a powerful GM engine and is wrapped in a stylishly designed body with the latest technology in a luxurious cabin under its skin.”
