SAIC Motor is the largest carmaker in China for the past 15 years and among the top 10 largest automotive manufacturers in the world. It sold 5.6 million vehicles in 2020 with $ 107.56 billion in operating revenue.

SAIC Motor formed a joint venture with Volkswagen in 1984 and has been producing Volkswagens for the Chinese market under the manufacture name of SAIC Volkswagen. In 1997 SAIC Motor and General Motors created a similar joint venture in China. 

In addition, SAIC Motor launched several self-owned brands. Starting with MG obviously and also brands like WULING, MAXUS and several others. These self-owned brands account for a record breaking of 2,599 million vehicles sold in 2020, accounting for 46.4% of its total sales.

Sales of Battery-Electric vehicle (BEVs), Plug -in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles – also known as New Energy vehicles (NEVs) by SAIC Motor saw a year-on-year increase of 73.4% in 2020. This represents the fastest growth rate and highest sales figures in China.

With these figures, SAIC Motor ranked sixtieth on the latest Fortune Global 500 list, ranking above Hyundai Motor Company and just below BMW Group, as Fortune reported in August 2021. Since 2014, SAIC Motor has been among the top 100 companies in the World.

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile is a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors and Wuling Motors Co Ltd.  Earlier today (14 January 2022), SAIC-GM-Wuling announced that its Mini EV has crossed 500,000 units in terms of sales last year. The EV in question is like a “micro car,” and has seen success in the company’s home market of China.

Previously, the company had announced that it had crossed 400,000 Mini EV sales in China, but this figure has now surpassed 550,000 units and edged out Tesla’s Model 3. This also made it rank first in China in terms of annual sales for cars that run on ‘new energy’. Furthermore, Wuling Motors have set a new record for the sale of a single model of new energy car in China, with sales reaching 55,729 units in December 2021 alone. Notably, the company’s Mini EV also ranked first in this category for the sixteenth consecutive month. At the moment, the Chinese automobile maker is expected to continue the series by offering upgrades to the micro car. It even plans to launch new models of the mini electric vehicle in China. The company has even managed to sell more EVs than the world’s largest EV maker, Tesla.

Adding to its achievements, the Wuling MINI EV took the crown in new energy preservation rate list from All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce Automobile group. In this list, it ranked first with 89.78 % efficiency rate. The combined sales of the SEV series models including MINI EV, Wuling Nano EV and KiWi EV from the brand has crossed more than 750,000 units during the same period.

Also SAIC MG India “MG Hector” and SAIC Wuling “ALMAZ” Indonesia has become a Best Selling 7-Seater SUVs in the same platform, Drivetrain and Design. 

Today in India SAIC “MG HECTOR” is one of the Best-selling7 Seater SUVs, which is also the Best-selling7 Seater SUV in Indonesia Branded as “ALMAZ”.
