The Volkswagen Beetle Owners’ Club held the 28th Annual General Meeting on Saturday 5 October at the Marco Polo Room of the Excel World, Colombo 10.
The proceedings resumed with the President Peter Jasinghe calling the meeting to order being the first item on the agenda.
It was heartening to note that there were no obituaries in the year under review which proved that the Beetles keep their owners in fine “fettle”.
The minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting were presented and approved by the members, followed by the adoption of the Club’s Annual Report for the year in review.
This was followed with the presentation of the Audited Accounts for the year and a special note of gratitude was mentioned to the outgoing Treasurer for an excellent job done in handling the accounts of the Club.
In his speech, the outgoing President thanked the members for their unstinted support extended towards the activities of the club and went on to thank the members of the Executive committee who ensured a full year of activity was carried out having surpassed the difficult period that was faced by all in the past year and ensured that subsidised rates were levied to keep the membership participation at an all-time high at the events planned out which was a resounding success. He also thanked the traditional sponsors who so gratefully assist the club along with the partnership hotels who accommodate our requests in good times and bad.
The Patron of the Club, Kapila Jayawardena was proposed and elected by the House to the post of Pro-Tem Chairman pending the appointment of the committee for the year 2024/25.
The Pro-Tem Chairman thanked the outgoing committee for an excellent year of events planned out with a special note of the celebrations to note of the 70th Anniversary of the introduction of the Volkswagen Beetle to the motoring fraternity of Lanka. The Chairman proposed that the same committee be elected to the committee for a period of one year which was proposed and seconded followed by a unanimous show of hands by all present on the request of those in favour.
The following were elected to the post of Office bearers for the year 2024/25
