  • Team says move will take Sri Lanka to the world map of racing
In the wake of Sri Lankan Cricket Team’s historic series win against England, it has come to light that Sri Lanka’s leading motor racing team EZY Racing is preparing themselves to create history and put the Island in the world map of motor racing, an area that  very few motor racing teams have been successful in penetrating. The Asia Pacific Rally Championship is an official F.I.A. championship that is held in a diverse range of countries, climates, and cultures, with a huge population base of over 2.5 billion people. Ranked as an extension to FIA’s apex World Rally Championship, the Asia Pacific Rally Championship is the leading Rally Championship for Asia Pacific and is also considered to be a top contender for the region’s premier event. In 2014 seven events make-up the championship starting in New Zealand, New Caledonia, Australia and then on to Asia – Malaysia, Japan, China and Thailand. Teams and drivers from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and many more countries have entered, driving the latest rally cars from Skoda, Citroen, Proton, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Toyota. From beautiful south-sea island sunsets to the rugged bamboo covered mountains in northern China, this rally championship is considered to have it all and is consider to be a crowd entertainer across the countries. APRC.TV Ltd. (www.aprc.tv) has been the official television producer for the championship since 1999 and in 2012, 517 million TV viewers in 196 countries watched coverage of the APRC. Sri Lanka’s iconic motor racing brand EZY Racing, which became the very first motor racing team in the country to set about as a professional motor racing company back in 2010, commenced operations with a vision of becoming the very first motor racing team from the island nation to participate internationally within five years of operations. Its acceptance into the Asia Pacific Rally Championship is now perceived to be the beginning of a new journey as it realises its vision of making history. “Participating in a FIA (governing council for motor racing, worldwide, similar to ICC in cricket) is not an easy task. It is not as simple as waking up on one particular day and deciding that we want to buy an air ticket and take our cars along. The preparation takes months. The car, which is the biggest asset in motor racing, needs to meet thousands of detailed FIA standards which requires investments, time and effort,” said a spokesperson from the team. EZY Racing, which recently signed up its very first international sponsorship partners, consider that the sign-up with Interactive will be the first of many international sponsors coming on board as it becomes a team to be followed through Asia and watched by over 500 million TV viewers in over 190 countries. The team, which ventured into its very first international country in June with the hope of creating regional followership to its brand, has seen an upsurge in its fan followership on its fan page www.fb.com/ezyracing.
