KIA invests in staff training to enhance customer care

KIA Motors (Lanka) Ltd., the authorised distributor for one of the most popular automobile brands in Sri Lanka, has initiated a program to enhance the personal development of its staff, introducing an in-house English language training course and several other training programs. The first batch to undergo training comprising of 14 technicians from the company’s workshop and body shop completed a 14 week course conducted by a professional. It covered lessons in spoken and written English. Successful candidates received certificates, and the highest scorers that ranked 1st and 2nd were presented with cash prizes, the company said. KIA Motors (Lanka) hopes to modify and extend the program to executive and managerial level staff  in future, the company’s Chief Operating Officer Andrew Perera said. “One objective is to facilitate participation in the online training provided by our principal KIA, and create a learning culture in the Company,” he said. “Enhancing English language skills of staff members helps personal development and progression as well as productive capacity.” “This program is an investment to develop the skills of employees as it helps them to better understand theories and to gain practical knowledge on the industry to provide a value added service to customers,” Perera added. KIA Motors (Lanka) has also entered into an agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development to support vocational training for mechanics in Sri Lanka as part of a Kia Motors Corporation’s (KMC) global CSR initiative. The agreement envisages the combining of the skills and resources of KOICA and KIA Motors in new ways through sharing expertise and technology. Through this agreement KIA Motors (Lanka) will introduce new technologies to the industry, provide field technicians and instructors, offer access to work sites for training and opportunities for employment for qualified graduates. KIA sells more than 2.7 million vehicles a year worldwide. The company has 15 manufacturing and assembly operations in ten countries and a network of distributors and dealers covering 149 countries.
