By David Ebert Sporting a massive iconic three pointed Merecedes-Benz star atop its roof, Sri Lanka’s Mercedes-Benz agent Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC, launched its state of the art Mercedes-Benz Centre of Excellence – DIMO 800 – last week (13) at No. 800, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Colombo 14. Built by DIMO with an investment of Rs. 2.5 billion at a time the company celebrates its 75th Anniversary, the building has been designed according to exacting Mercedes-Benz international guidelines and standards and will incorporate superior service offerings for its exclusive clientele. The centre promises to benchmark its customer service offerings with exclusive customer lounges and experienced, well trained service staff and technicians on hand. The DIMO 800 centre will also house its modern training centre that will offer educational courses conducted by certified Mercedes-Benz instructors for all DIMO staff as well as students of the DIMO Automobile Training School. In addition, the building will also boast a state-of-the-art auditorium and a vintage car museum housing a range of iconic Mercedes-Benz classics on display. The after sales facilities of the building consist of 58 work bays with cutting-edge manufacturer-approved tools and equipment to cater to any and all maintenance and accident repair requirements. This will include DIMO’s 24-hour island-wide roadside assistance, paint finishing and also restoration of classic cars using genuine Mercedes-Benz parts and accessories, all seen to by its team of Service Advisors on hand at the elite customer lounge to offer a choice of the best service packages available. The DIMO 800 building has incorporated several radical aspects in its design that will lead to it being certified with the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) due to its emphasis on minimising its environmental impact. It employs the latest green technology such as facade cooling and shading devices, low emissivity prismatic lighting for maximum utilisation of natural daylight, rain water harvesting, grey water reuse and a high tech building maintenance system that controls the central air-conditioning systems, lighting and access control. The customer is now the star more than ever.” With DIMO having the distinction of being one of the first and probably the oldest Mercedes-Benz dealer in the Asian region, Daimler South East Asia President/CEO Wolfgang Huppenbauer who was also present at the inauguration of the building, in conclusion said: “It’s not every day that we get to congratulate a business partner who has been in partnership with Daimler for 75 years.”

 Basil flags off DIMO’s new Mercedez Benz Centre

Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO), the general distributor of Mercedez Benz in Sri Lanka, launched the new Mercedez Benz Centre with the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa on 13 May. The new centre is located at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Mawatha, Colombo 14. The new centre, DIMO 800 spans across an area of 15,800 square feet and was constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.5 billion rupees. The after sales service facility, consisting of 85 work bays with cutting edge manufacturer approved tools and equipment is the central point that is dedicated to cater to all services including maintenance and accident repairs. Minister Kumara Welgama, Member of Parliaments Sajith Premadasa, Ravi Karunanayaka, Arjuna Ranathunga, Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Muzammil, President and CEO of Daimler Central, Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia Peter Alexander Trettin and Ranjith Pandithage, the Chairman and Managing Director of DIMO also participated at this occasion.
