Modern luxury vehicles are highly advanced, software driven and precisely engineered machines and such masterpieces require careful and proper maintenance, failing which can result in frequent vehicle breakdowns, inconvenience and hassle, damage to the car as well as fatal injuries to oneself.
When it comes to a Mercedes-Benz, it’s a sophisticated feat of modern engineering requiring careful maintenance and informed expertise when handling the car during servicing. This is extremely important for the long term health of a Mercedes-Benz and the safety of passengers. While most of the maintenance requirements and recommendations are found in the service manuals and can be followed by most, much of the rest of the specifications, recommendations and updates are communicated directly and frequently by Daimler AG to the authorised distributors in each country the brand is officially represented. This is the primary reason why it is always recommended that one should always let the authorised distributor take care of your three-pointed ‘star’ and not by other mechanics or auto service centres.
In Sri Lanka, the authorised distributor for Mercedes-Benz vehicles is Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) and irrespective of the year of manufacture or model, they are also the only authorised service centre to carry out servicing and repairs for Mercedes-Benz. When you take a Mercedes-Benz to DIMO for routine maintenance, the technicians use specialised tools, instruments, technical literature, genuine Mercedes-Benz parts and unmatched technical training to service your vehicle. DIMO is also the only service facility in Sri Lanka to have in possession a variety of specialised tools and equipment which are critical for the performance of the vehicle.
Often overlooked by customers is the critical importance of why an authorised service centre may be crucial not only for the longevity of the vehicle but also for the safety of its passengers. While the same task can be completed with basic tools at times, it will not deliver precise results when put to test. This in turn can lead to a compromise in safety of passengers in case of an accident; all due to faulty tools or inaccurate or outdated information on the part of the service staff.
The risks to your car and passengers are also much more when you patronise incompetent service centres. Due to the nature of specific issues, high-tech diagnostic equipment alone may not detect some defects which can only be diagnosed by trained and competent staff. For instance, petrol leaks do not catch fire even at higher temperatures but will do so only if there is a minor spark. Hence, a vehicle with a fuel leak during an accident can catch fire due to sparks. Just any service center or garage may carry out electrical modifications that are not in line with the manufacturer’s wiring diagrams and can lead to battery draining or even sometimes burn down the car completely.
For these highly critical and practical reasons, DIMO recommends that customers avail themselves of the expertise and technology available at the DIMO service centres. The centre’s services are specially recommended if you are planning to purchase an old Mercedes-Benz model from the Sunday papers or from a car dealer.
With a prior appointment, it only takes approximately two hours to have your car inspected and can save you hundreds and thousands in the long term. It can also save yourself, family, friends or other passengers travelling in your car from a fatal disaster. Getting the engine, chassis and transmission numbers checked will make sure they match with manufacturer details and ensure the vehicle is neither stolen nor an illegal import to the country.
As the only sales center in Sri Lanka authorised by Daimler AG, DIMO strongly advises all owners of Mercedes-Benz models to maintain their cars with the company even if it was imported through a third party as a used or brand new vehicle. Many benefits under the ‘Initial Inspection and Service’ package offered to such customers will make them aware of the accurate condition of the vehicle and pristine maintenance will retain the resale value of your ‘star.’
