Nissan’s new 3-seater Pivo 3 can ‘find its own parking spot’

London (ANI): Japan’s auto giant Nissan has unveiled a tiny urban commuter car that is capable of searching for a parking spot on its own.

Nissan’s 3-seater Pivo 3 based on Automated Valet Parking technology can valet park itself, sell excess power to the grid and do a u-turn in the average living room.

According to the Age, the system only works in specially-equipped parking stations.

The car can also charge itself and even sell excess power back to the grid. When the driver is ready to leave again they simply “call” the car to pick them up.

The new concept includes a sleek, sharp-edged front-end look, dual sliding doors for easy ingress and egress in tight parking spots, and a wide-hipped, more upright rear-end.

The Pivo 3 features a neat 1+2 seat layout, with the driver mounted centrally at the wheel and the two passengers slotting in slightly further back.

There is a widescreen monitor in place of the conventional instrument cluster, and the side mirrors are replaced with cameras that transmit a surround-view image to the monitors mounted in the front windscreen pillars.

Nissan claims the Pivo 3, which is due to be revealed at the 2011 Tokyo motor show later this month, can complete a U-turn in just four metres, about a third of the space required by most small cars.
