Eurocars Ltd., the country’s official importer of Porsche, participated in the Ceylon Motor Trader’s Association (CMTA) Motor Show held recently at the BMICH.

The CMTA Motor Show is the biggest event for automobile franchise holders in Sri Lanka and is known globally for its prestigious automotive brands. This year it included a variety of sports cars, SUVs, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and classic cars. During the three-day motor show, Porsche enthusiasts got the opportunity to have a closer look at the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment – the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the world’s first plug-in hybrid in the luxury class Panamera S E-Hybrid, and the sports car in the compact SUV segment, Macan.

Eurocars Ltd. also presented the Porsche 919 Hybrid for the first time in Sri Lanka. Specially developed for the FIA World Endurance Championship and for Le Mans, the 919 Hybrid is built for the challenge of putting tomorrow’s technologies through today’s toughest motorsports tests. The exceptional efficiency of the Porsche 919 Hybrid is the result of a carefully balanced overall concept. The sum of all of its individual components – from the combustion engine and the energy recovery systems to the chassis, running gear, aerodynamics and driver ergonomics – forms an effective unit. The combustion engine is a compact V four-cylinder petrol engine that also serves as a load-bearing member in the chassis.

It is a frontrunner of the future-oriented downsizing philosophy and features two litres of engine displacement, direct fuel injection and mono turbo charging, the engine that turns at speeds up to 9,000 rpm. The compact engine outputs around 500 hp.

Porsche Asia Pacific Managing Director Martin Limpert says, “Porsche has always been a brand that strives for steadfastly preserving its strong motorsports heritage while always moving forward. Porsche does not build sports cars only to win races; it builds racetrack-worthy cars that one can enjoy every day on city roads. The 919 Hybrid speaks to the strength of Porsche engineering, the very same expertise that goes into the sports cars it produces for the roads.”
