The new Ertiga from Suzuki is the marque’s exciting first foray into the seven-seat car market; having studied the utility vehicles market careful before entering. Suzuki has successfully created one of the most compelling cars in the market sector by combining the practicality of a MPV, the feel and manoeuvrability of a small hatch back and the space and stance of an SUV. With over 65,000 Suzukis already plying Sri Lankan roads, it is no secret that this Indo-Japanese manufacture has cemented itself as a buyer favourite. However until now, there were no offerings from Suzuki to cater to those needing more space and practicality. Now that has all changed thanks to the launch of the Ertiga, and both loyal customers and prospective buyers now have a new option to choose from in the value added Suzuki line up. Ideally suited to both families and the tourism industry, the new Suzuki Ertiga can successfully seat seven passengers in ample comfort. Seating them in a triple row layout, the design is such that it leaves no one out, with seating cleverly positioned so that all passengers experience first class levels of legroom, headroom and shoulder room. Even third row occupants get the ability to stretch out thanks to sliding second row seat backs, with an amazing 150 mm of fore and aft movement. The versatility provided by different passenger and luggage combinations possible makes the Ertiga ideal for everything from a shopping spree at the supermarket to a family road trip. The interior is further filled with several ingenious space maximising features, including multiple cup holders, seat back pockets, a spacious glove box and even an under-floor storage tray. Comfort is also one of the Ertiga’s strongest suits. Besides its class leading spaciousness, rear seat passengers also get their own dedicated A/C unit, with separate controls. The ride quality has been tailor made to cope with the best and worst roads Sri Lanka has to offer, and will isolate the occupants from all but the worst of road undulations. The electric power steering makes traffic a breeze, whilst handling is surprisingly spritely thanks to the MacPherson Strut front suspension, and the monocoque construction not only provides strength and rigidity to the chassis, but also offers the greatest weight savings compared to competitor models. The Ertiga comes fully loaded too, with remote central locking, electric windows and mirrors all round, a four speaker stereo system with USB and Aux input, as well as the convenience of having steering wheel integrated controls. The Ertiga is available with either a petrol or diesel engine, with both units offering compelling reasons to lust after them. On the one hand the multipoint injection K-Series petrol is one of the most refined units, incorporating Variable Valve Timing to refine power delivery and boost fuel efficiency. This is further enhanced by paying special attention to reducing friction in engine components, for smoother running and reduced engine noise. On the other hand the DDiS 1.3 litre diesel combines common rail fuel injection with an inter-cooled turbocharger to generate high dynamic torque for excellent acceleration and all-round performance, together with outstanding fuel efficiency. All engines are coupled with a manual transmission, which further enhances fuel savings as well as contributing to even greater driving satisfaction. As with all Suzuki cars, the Ertiga will be available island wide through Associated Motorways Ltd. and their branches. AMW offers several payment schemes, including trade in and leasing offers. With a two year or 50,000km warranty the Ertiga provides peace of mind which is further enhanced by the strong network of authorised service agents and parts stockist’s island ways. The strength of AMW is just one reason why all Suzuki cars, the Ertiga included, retain high residual values on the second hand car market. And at just 3.9 million for the petrol and 4.2 million for the diesel, the Ertiga defiantly ticks all the right boxes for the frugally minded. Without a doubt, the Ertiga is the best value for money offering in the MPV market today.
