NEW DELHI: Toyota Motor is recalling more than 7,100 units of its executive sedan Corolla manufactured between April 2007 and July 2008 and sold in India to fix defective passenger-side airbags, supplied by Japanese component maker Takata.
This is the third recall of the Corolla in India in the past one year and is linked to Toyota’s global recall of 2.86 million cars announced on June 25.
Other Japanese carmakers like Honda Motor and Nissan Motor have also recalled their models to fix the same airbag problem. More than 30 million cars have been recalled for inspection and alternations in the passenger safety device across the world.
In May, Toyota’s local subsidiary, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), recalled Corollas sold between July 2003 and March 2007. In last November, the company recalled 5,834 units of the diesel version of the same car, made between June 2010 and May 2011, to replace faulty components contributing to the entry of engine oil into the air intake system.
