United Motors launches FUSO medium and heavy duty truck range

By David Ebert United Motors Lanka PLC recently announced the launch of the FUSO medium and heavy duty truck range in Sri Lanka. The new range promises exceptional functionality, durability and driving comfort using the latest trucking technology available. The FUSO range will consist of three models; the FA series with a nine-ton payload, the FI series with a 12-ton payload and comes in a tipper variant, and the larger FJ series with a payload of 25 tons and its own tipper variant as well. In addition, the trucks all comes with chassis specially designed for heavy loads and tested at the state-of-the-art Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Oragadam plant in Chennai, South India. The new truck range reportedly offer customers better value for money and lower operating costs due to an increased fuel efficiency of up to 10% higher than the industry average right now. This was achieved through a combination of world class components and extensive road testing of up to nine million miles at the 620 million euro DICV production and testing facility, prior to production. Speaking at the launch event held at the BMICH United Motors CEO/Executive Director Chanaka Yatawara said: “FUSO heavy and medium duty trucks deliver lower operating costs, making them the best choice for smart businesses and we are thrilled to be setting the new benchmark for the best in trucking technology.” The trucks’ engine and power train have been optimised to suit local conditions and will feature the latest German and Japanese technology including Common Rail technology. The medium duty FA and FI trucks based on the Daimler Trucks technical platform consisting of the Mitsubishi FUSO Fighter medium-truck on the chassis and the Canter light-duty-truck on the cabin both incorporating the newly developed 4D37 diesel engine with a displacement of 3907cc, output of 100kW and a six-speed manual transmission. The medium heavy duty FJ truck, also based on the Daimler Trucks technical platform will use the Mercedes Benz Axor chassis and cabin and incorporates the newly developed 6S20 diesel engine with a displacement of 6373cc and an output of 170kW with a six speed manual transmission.
