Wasana Trading Lanka Ltd. Director Asiri Dayan Merenchige and Vega Technologies Ltd. Director Beshan Kulapala exchange the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which cements their partnership for establishing the electric charge points

Wasana Trading Lanka Ltd., a leader in motor vehicle technology in Sri Lanka, announced on 16 September that the company had successfully completed and launched 100 electric motor vehicle plug- in points around the country.

The charge points have been set up to meet a shortfall in the technological and service support presently available to owners of electric motor vehicles in Sri Lanka, who can now avail themselves of the facilities at very competitive prices.

These charge stations have been set up in accessible locations and include six charging points set up along the Southern expressway.

“The electric car is a brand new technology which is 100% environment friendly and has many other benefits as well,” explained Indika Sampath Merenchige, Director, Wasana Trading Company at a media conference.

“This accounts for its escalating demand around the world. But in Sri Lanka, the demand for eleBUP_DFT_DFT-7-1579ctrical cars has not kept pace with international trends due to the lack of accessible charging points when compared with the ready availability of fuel for petrol and diesel vehicles. As a result, local owners of electric cars are inclined to use them as a second car. As the first step to changing this consumption pattern and promoting the use of the electric car as the primary car for every consumer, Wasana Trading has set up charging points throughout the island. We are planning to establish more charging spots around the country in the future, so consumers now need not fear purchasing electric motor vehicles.”

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Wasana Trading Company and Vega Technologies to set up rapid charging points throughout the country in the near future. Wasana Trading Company Director Asiri Dayan Merenchige and Vega Technologies Director Beshan Kulapala were the signatories to the agreement.

“In an era of environment pollution which has had detrimental effects in many countries, this step taken by Wasana Trading to popularise 100% environment- friendly electric cars must be viewed as an act of national importance,” said M.N. De Silva, Activity Director of Canowin Hotel & Spa and the Southern Expressway Canowin Arcade.

Owners who recharge their electric vehicles at charge points set up by Wasana Trading Company have the added advantage of a charge card for use at any of these points at any time of the dayat a discounted price, stated Vega Technologies Director Beshan Kulapala.

Wasana Trading is also in the process of developing an app for use on smartphones that will enable owners of electric motor vehicles to locate the charge point closest to them.
