Global trade is considered as the lifeblood of the world economy. Hence, its continuity is of utmost importance from the smallest to the largest of economies in the world. However, we are living in an era where continuity of global trade is seriously challenged by various disruptions across the world.
As one of the key enablers of global trade, logisticians across the world are ensuring continuity of their services irrespective of the severe constraints brought about by these disruptions. We have witnessed this in Sri Lanka abundantly during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as subsequent economic downturn.
Whilst trading communities play a pivotal role in the revival of the economy and receive due recognition, the logistics firms are seldom recognised despite their efforts which are often not visible. SLFFA recognised this and held the first ever National Logistics Awards in March 2022 to recognise these organisations and outstanding individuals which was a great success. The winners were chosen through an application process where an independent panel of judges consisting of professionals from the trade as well as eminent academics were involved.
The detailed selection process gives more prominence to qualitative aspects over and above the numbers which enables selecting winners who are able to portray a more comprehensive presentation backed by evidence. As global customers are more focused on ethical business practices, sustainable business models and supply chains, SLFFA believes these types of competitions will create a platform for the participants to assess their organisation’s standing versus their competition in these aspects. We believe this will eventually propel the industry to a higher pedestal.
This year’s National Logistics awards are held at an important juncture of our country and SLFFA believes the logistics industry will play an even bigger role in driving the national economy to greater heights in the years ahead. We sincerely hope our efforts in recognising these champion organisations will contribute positively towards this broader objective and motivate the rest to strive for improvements.
