1,208 COVID-19 cases detected

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 641,786 following the detection of 1,208 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

According to the Department of Government Information, all patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

The previous day, 1,281 patients from the New Year cluster were detected. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 7,468 PCR tests and 3,584 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Wednesday.

A total of 536,113 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have been detected.

In terms of imported cases, 7,225 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s total COVID-19 detections include 132,777 persons from Colombo, 111,390 persons from Gampaha, 56,743 persons from Kalutara, 42,516 persons from Galle, and 30,563 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 100,480 persons from Colombo, 92,856 persons from Gampaha, and 49,685 persons from Kalutara tested positive for the virus.

At present, 17,758 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,406 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 329 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 607,912.
