1,231 persons test positive for COVID-19

A total of 1,231 COVID-19 patients were detected yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 case count to 629,347.

The patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

The previous day, 1,149 persons from the New Year cluster and one Sri Lankan overseas arrival tested positive for COVID-19. 

The Health Promotion Bureau states that 5,584 PCR tests and 1,860 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Sunday.

Sri Lanka’s total patient count includes 523,671 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 7,207 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 129,040 persons from Colombo, 109,374 persons from Gampaha, 55,929 persons from Kalutara, 41,383 persons from Galle, and 30,124 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 96,743 persons from Colombo, 90,840 persons from Gampaha, and 48,871 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 18,158 persons are under medical or home-based care. 

In addition to this, 965 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 595,345 with 317 persons released from care yesterday.
