Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections exceeded 630,000 with the detection of 1,252 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday.
According to the Department of Government Information, all patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.
The previous day, 1,228 persons from the New Year cluster and three Sri Lankan overseas returnees tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 6,131 PCR tests and 1,438 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Monday.
A total of 630,599 COVID-19 patients have been detected in Sri Lanka to date.
This includes 524,899 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster. The country’s imported cases include 7,210 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.
According to the district distribution of COVID-19 patients, 129,386 persons from Colombo, 109,675 persons from Gampaha, 56,063 persons from Kalutara, 41,477 persons from Galle, and 30,162 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 97,089 patients from Colombo, 91,141 patients from Gampaha, and 49,005 patients from Kalutara have been detected.
At present, 19,076 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,061 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 304 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 595,649.
