1,253 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 621,985 with 1,253 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The Department of Government Information states that all patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster.

The previous day, 1,298 patients from the New Year cluster were detected. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 8,206 PCR tests and 3,809 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Monday.

The country’s total COVID-19 case count includes 516,296 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,152 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 7,198 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 126,741 persons from Colombo, 108,144 persons from Gampaha, 55,478 persons from Kalutara, 40,386 persons from Galle and 29,874 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 94,444 persons from Colombo, 89,610 persons from Gampaha, and 48,420 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 24,265 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,223 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 582,064 with 405 persons released from care yesterday.
