Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 510,040 with 1,368 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
All the patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. A total of 8,256 PCR tests were carried out yesterday.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 6,745 PCR tests and 3,468 rapid antigen tests were carried out the previous day. On Wednesday, 1,321 persons from the New Year cluster and 21 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 405,029 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 8,637 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.
The country’s imported cases consist of 6,920 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.
The district distribution of COVID-19 detections shows 109,023 persons from Colombo, 90,852 persons from Gampaha, 50,003 persons from Kalutara, 29,974 persons from Galle, and 24,433 persons from Kurunegala. During the third wave of the pandemic, 76,726 persons from Colombo, 72,318 persons from Gampaha, and 42,945 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19.
At present, 45,850 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,641 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that the sudden drop from 61,274 active cases on Wednesday was due to the deduction of home-based discharges from 15 September to 22 September.
A total of 951 persons were discharged from medical or home-based care yesterday and the country’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 451,742.
