1,413 COVID-19 patients detected, total detections rise to 277,519

The country’s COVID-19 detections rose to 277,519 with the detection of 1,413 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

According to the Department of Government Information, 1,404 patients linked to the New Year cluster were among the patients detected yesterday.

This raises the cumulative patient count of the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters to 269,535, which includes 174,885 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 7,506 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of the country’s imported cases, 5,743 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

This includes the 1,568 COVID-19 patients detected on Monday, of which 1,445 were from the New Year cluster, 80 were Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 43 were from the Prisons cluster. Of the COVID-19 patients detected on Monday, 225 persons were from Kalutara, 154 persons were from Colombo, and 153 persons were from Gampaha.

In total, 64,137 persons from Colombo, 48,732 persons from Gampaha, 30,398 persons from Kalutara, 14,582 persons from Kurunegala, and 13,845 persons from Kandy have tested positive for COVID-19.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 31,840 persons from Colombo, 30,198 persons from Gampaha, and 23,340 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for the virus.

At present, 26,417 persons are under medical care and 827 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under investigation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,328 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 247,569.
