COVID-19 detections crossed the 550,000 mark with 1,413 COVID-19 detections over the weekend and the addition of over 1,000 COVID-19 cases following verification.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,345 COVID-19 cases reported between 29 October and 4 November were yesterday added to the total after verification.
COVID-19 detections during the weekend include 697 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. This includes 695 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals.
On Saturday, 714 persons from the New Year cluster and two Sri Lankan overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 6,510 PCR tests and 3,298 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.
Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections currently stand at 551,542. This includes 446,742 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,053 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster.
The country’s imported cases include 6,964 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 113,929 persons from Colombo, 96,946 persons from Gampaha, 52,397 persons from Kalutara, 34,458 persons from Galle, and 26,638 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 81,632 patients from Colombo, 78,412 patients from Gampaha, and 45,339 patients from Kalutara have been detected.
At present, 13,618 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,806 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 426 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 523,929.
Meanwhile, authorities warned that an increase in COVID-19 numbers can be seen in Anuradhapura City in past two weeks.
“We need to be careful in the coming weeks and large crowds must refrain from gathering in places of worship,” Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.
