1,507 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 274,538, includes over 266,000 detections since October 2020

A total of 1,507 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the country’s total COVID-19 detections to 274,538.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 13,777 PCR tests were carried out yesterday and the detections include 1,492 persons from the New Year cluster.

The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters have expanded to 266,643 patients and includes 171,933 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 7,364 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster. The country’s local COVID-19 cases also include 950 Navy personnel and their contacts and 651 patients linked to the Kandakadu cluster.

In terms of imported cases, the Epidemiology Unit records 5,648 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners as having tested positive for COVID-19.

This takes into account the 1,548 COVID-19 patients detected on Saturday, which includes 1,479 persons from the New Year cluster, 36 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 33 Sri Lankan overseas returnees.

On Saturday, 13,917 PCR tests and 5,463 rapid antigen tests were carried out.

Among Saturday’s patients are 336 persons from Gampaha, 242 persons from Colombo, and 180 persons from Kalutara.

Western Province COVID-19 detections during the third wave include 31,308 patients from Colombo, 29,557 patients from Gampaha, and 23,059 patients from Kalutara.

In total, 63,605 persons from Colombo, 48,091 persons from Gampaha, 30,117 persons from Kalutara, 14,475 persons from Kurunegala, and 13,712 persons from Kandy have tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 26,634 persons are under medical care and 949 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries currently stand at 244,437, with 1,598 persons discharged from hospitals yesterday.
