Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections yesterday exceeded 291,000 with the detection of 1,721 COVID-19 positive persons.
In total, 291,298 COVID-19 patients have been detected in the island.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 11,302 PCR tests were carried out yesterday and the COVID-19 detections include 1,714 persons from the New Year cluster.
A total of 282,985 COVID-19 patients have been detected from the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons and New Year clusters, including 187,727 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 7,690 persons from the Prisons clusters and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.
In terms of imported cases, 6,074 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
This includes the 1,604 patients detected on Wednesday, of which 1,563 persons were from the New Year cluster, 38 persons were Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and three were from the Prisons cluster.
The Health Promotion Bureau stated that 12,213 PCR tests and 4,713 rapid antigen tests were carried out on Wednesday.
The detections include 486 persons from Colombo, 279 persons from Gampaha, and 213 persons from Kalutara.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 34,414 persons from Colombo, 32,823 persons from Gampaha and 24,580 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19.
The district distribution of the country’s total COVID-19 detections includes 66,711 persons from Colombo, 51,357 persons from Gampaha, 31,638 persons from Kalutara, 14,872 persons from Kurunegala, and 14,090 persons from Kandy.
At present, 22,646 persons are under medical care and 1,128 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation at various treatment centres.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 997 persons left hospitals yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 264,755.
