10th Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration on 28 November

The 10th Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration (SJMO) of the Alumni Association University of Colombo will be held on Thursday, 28 November 2013 at 4:30 p.m. at the SLFI Auditorium, No. 100, Sri Lanka Padanama Mw, Independence Square, Colombo 07.
The SJMO was inaugurated 10 years ago and this year’s oration will be delivered by Prof. Sudharshan Seneviratne, Professor of Archaeology at the University of Peradeniya.
The topic of his presentation will be ‘Heritage Odyssey Sri Lanka: A Visual Narration Unfolding the Multi-faceted Personality of an Island Civilisation’.
This is a visual (power point) presentation of the island civilisation of Sri Lanka walking the audience primarily through UNESCO declared World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka. The talk will focus on archaeological sites dating back to 40,000 BC and construct the evolution of an island civilisation from pre-history to the colonial period; the cultural, technological and economic developments, its inclusive history as an island society and how, in contemporary times, heritage is a powerful tool in education, tourism, sustainable development and in conflict resolution.
