113 persons test positive for COVID-19

662,216 COVID-19 patients detected in total
Includes 74,531 detections this year
8,425 persons currently receiving care
Nine persons released from treatment centres

Health officials state that 113 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 case count to 662,216.

On Monday, 112 persons tested positive for COVID-19 and the Health Promotion Bureau states that 1,666 PCR tests and 1,195 rapid antigen tests were conducted that day.

The country’s total COVID-19 case count includes 483,090 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 74,531 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January.

In addition to this, 7,242 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 138,842 patients from Colombo, 114,256 patients from Gampaha, 58,171 patients from Kalutara, 45,461 patients from Galle, and 31,465 patients from Kurunegala are included in the country’s COVID-19 case count.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,545 patients from Colombo, 95,722 patients from Gampaha, and 51,113 patients from Kalutara were detected. At present, 8,425 persons are under medical or home-based care and 589 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

Nine persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 637,306.
