115,698 persons vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday

COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 115,698 persons on Monday with first dose coverage exceeding 15 million.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 15,061,354 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 13,201,141 persons have received the second dose as well. The Epidemiology Unit adds that 90.3% of the over-20 population has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Of the country’s total population, 61.2% has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to date. According to Our World in Data, the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 69.72% of the population.

On Monday, 68,586 persons received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and 695 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. In total, the first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 743,537 persons, of which 432,820 persons have received the second dose as well.

The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,876,048 persons and 10,453,018 persons have received the second dose of Sinopharm. On Monday, 4,746 persons received the first dose and 40,568 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm.

The second dose of AstraZeneca was administered to 863 persons on Monday, raising the total number of persons to receive both doses of AstraZeneca to 1,388,152. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 1,479,575 persons.

The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 803,098 persons and the second dose has been administered to 771,497 persons. On Monday, the second dose of Moderna was administered to 240 persons.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 159,096 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,654 persons have received the second dose of Sputnik V.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka yesterday tweeted that 3,300 Chinese nationals received the Sinopharm vaccine as a booster six months after their second dose. The booster shots were administered between 22 October and 25 October in Colombo, Kandy, Hambantota, Puttalam, and Dambulla.

The Embassy added that no severe cases or deaths have been reported from fully vaccinated Chinese nationals residing in Sri Lanka.
