Thirteen political parties and four independent groups handed over nominations to Matara District Returning Officer E.A.C. Vidanagamachchi at the District Secretariat Matara last morning.
The protest lodged by the Our National Front alleging that Dullas Alahapperuma and the protest lodged by the People’s Liberation Front that H.G. Manoj Prasanna hold dual citizenship was disallowed by the RO.
The United National Party, United People’s Freedom Alliance, People’s Liberation Front, Democratic Party, Ape Jathika Peramuna, Janasetha Peramuna, Peratugami Samajavadi Pakshaya, Sri Lanka Jathika Balaya, Liberal Party, Sri Lanka Workers Party, Eksath Lanka Podujana Pakshaya, Nava Sihala Urumaya and the Eksath Mahajana Pakshaya were the 13 recognised political parties that handed over nominations for the Matara District.
Of these the main contenders at this general election will be the United National Party, the United People’s Freedom Alliance and the People’s Liberation Front.
Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Budhdhika Pathirana and Sagala Rathnayaka handed over nomination papers on behalf of the United National Party while Dullas Alahapperuma and Mahinda Yapa Aveywardena handed over nomination papers on behalf of the UPFA. Sunil Handuneththi and Jayantha Pathirana handed over the nomination papers on behalf of the Peoples Liberation Front.
UNP nomination list: Mangala Samaraweera, Budhdhika Pathirana, Sagala Rathnayaka, Justin Galappaththi, H.R. Wimalasiri, H.W. Gayan Sanjeewa, B.G. Chandana Priyantha, Devspriya Wanigasekera, A. Thivanka Janith wickremasinghe, Neil Upul Wedarachchi and M. Iqbal Mohamed Nouski.
UPFA nomination list: Dullas Alahapperuma, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Hemal Gunasekera,
Dharma Vijaya Dahanayake, H.G. Manoj Prasanna, Nilanga Hendavitharana, Kanchana Wijesekera, Sosindra Handunge, Chandrasiri Gajadeera and Suddachcharige Premarathna.
People’s Liberation Front nomination list: Sunil Handuneththi, Jinadasa Kithulegoda, Jayantha Pathirana, Saroja Savithri Paulraj, B.L. Lal Premanath, Beatrice Ubeywickrema, Indika Ranathunge, Ajantha Gammeddage, S.A. Saman Kumara, S. Janatharanjana Mohotti and K.P. Somasiri.
