Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 immunisation program on Tuesday administered a COVID-19 vaccine dose to 161,650 persons.
At present, the AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Pfizer, and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are being administered in the country. The first dose of a vaccine has been administered to 12,149,634 persons and the second dose to 5,949,431 persons.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 51.7% of the country’s population over the age of 30 has received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Second dose coverage exceeds 70% in the Colombo, Gampaha, Matale, and Kalutara Districts.
Meanwhile, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) yesterday decided to donate 300,000 doses of Sinopharm to Sri Lanka at the request of the Sri Lanka armed forces. The vaccine doses will be sent to Sri Lanka on 28 August.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 9,623,794 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm and 4,519,751 persons have received the second dose as well. On Tuesday, 13,687 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 52,730 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.
Thirty persons received the first dose of Moderna on Tuesday, and 84,168 persons received the second dose. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to a total of 771,426 persons, of which 421,131 have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of AstraZeneca was administered to 5,765 persons on Tuesday and the second dose was administered to 400 persons. Since administration of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine began, 1,341,027 persons have received the first dose and 880,417 persons have received the second dose.
The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,088 persons and the second dose to 23,797 persons. This includes 4,422 persons vaccinated with the Sputnik V second dose on Tuesday.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 255 persons received the first dose of Pfizer on Tuesday, and 193 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. The first dose of Pfizer has been administered to a total of 254,299 persons and the second dose to 104,335 persons.
