163 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 661,053 following the detection of 163 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 93 persons tested positive for COVID-19 the previous day.

A total of 73,319 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January. In addition to this, 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s imported cases include 7,241 Sir Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 138,516 persons from Colombo, 114,086 persons from Gampaha, 58,099 persons from Kalutara, 45,317 persons from Galle, and 31,402 persons from Kurunegala are among the country’s total COVID-19 detections.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,219 persons from Colombo, 95,552 persons from Gampaha, and 51,041 persons from Kalutara tested positive for the virus.

At present, 7,452 persons are under medical or home-based care and 745 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 17 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 637,136.
