168 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 661,453 following the detection of 168 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The previous day, 232 persons tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 3,192 PCR tests and 1,299 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 73,714 COVID-19 patients have been detected this year. The country’s total COVID-19 detections also include 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 7,241 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 138,594 patients from Colombo, 114,116 patients from Gampaha, 58,115 patients from Kalutara, 45,334 patients from Galle, and 31,424 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 106,297 persons from Colombo, 95,582 persons from Gampaha, and 51,057 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

There are currently 7,757 persons receiving medical or home-based care. In addition to this, 932 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

Thirty-six persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 637,223.
