Health officials on Monday confirmed 184 COVID19 fatalities, raising the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 10,504.
According to the Department of Government Information, 97 COVID-19 fatalities confirmed on Monday were male and 87 fatalities were female. Of the total fatalities, 5,931 are male and 4,573 are female.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 76.1% of the total fatalities are over the age of 60, 22.74% are aged between 30 and 59 years, and 1.15% are below the age of 30.
The fatalities confirmed on Monday include 134 persons over the age of 60, 46 persons aged between 30 and 59 years, and four persons below the age of 30.
Meanwhile, Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramali de Silva yesterday said 5,500 pregnant women have contracted COVID-19 to date and 42 of them have died.
“We do not see this as a small number. Looking at the data, we can point to COVID-19 as one of the main causes for maternal deaths this year,” Dr. de Silva said.
